TESTING OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS

One of the services offered by the Institute is a very important inspection as well as testing of electrical installations, which involves writing of an Expert Finding or Report if the tests were performed by one of the accredited methods.

As malfunctions in the installations can lead to device failures, fire outbreaks, and in severe cases can lead to fatal injuries, it is necessary to regularly monitor the performance of low voltage electrical installations and their functionality. Therefore, testing is considered to be a necessary type of control that represents an important segment in checking the functionality and operation of electrical systems in all types of facilities.

The first inspection and testing in accordance with the Ordinance is done after the electrical installations are performed, and before the commissioning of the facility as well as after reconstruction or adaptation.

Periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations is performed after the cessation of use of the facility for a period longer than six months and within 36 months from the previous inspection and testing.

Having examiners with years of experience, using accredited methods, as well as having the most modern measuring equipment, is what sets us apart at the market and what our success is reflected in. All tests and measurements are based on applicable laws, standards and regulations.

TESTING OF PROTECTIVE ELECTRICAL INSULATION EQUIPMENT AND MEANS

Testing of high-voltage protective equipment is a legal obligation of every owner or user of power plants, but it’s also necessary to prove their safety in order to protect the employees. Defective protective electrical insulation equipment can have fatal consequences for employees in the plants, therefore special attention is paid to periodic inspection and testing, as well as proper handling and maintenance.

From the wide program of services of the Accredited Laboratory of the Institute SIGURNOST, as the currently most unique in Montenegro, we would single out the service of testing electrical insulating poles for the testing of which we need a high voltage 100 kV test transformer.

All methods of measurement, testing and control are fully implemented according to applicable standards and technical regulations, and the internal organization of the laboratory is the one that guarantees a successful performance of all tasks. The entire work process is monitored in all phases, from receiving the samples, processing of test results to the issuance of the Report, which makes the process very reliable.

With this kind of organization, technical capabilities and professional staff, the laboratory is ready to respond in a very short time to all customer requirements, and the ultimate goal is a reliable result of testing and measurement, as well as customer satisfaction.

SPECIFIC LABORATORY TESTING

Testing of power plants

For all substations and large plants such as hydropower plants, thermal power plants and large industrial plants, it is necessary to perform regular periodic inspections and tests, which is essential for the protection and safety of employees. Regular inspections and tests extend their lifespan and ensure quality of electricity supply.

The most common is the request for regular audit and testing of substations, which includes a number of activities depending on the type of plant, and on this occasion we list only some of them:

  • measuring the insulation resistance of lines, transformers,
  • measuring the resistance of the earthing system by the U-I method,
  • measuring step voltage and contact voltage,
  • checking the galvanic connection on the grounding system,
  • dielectric strength testing of insulating oils.

Tests on non - ionizing radiation - Measurement of electric field strength and low frequency magnetic induction

Measurements of electric and magnetic fields originating from electric power systems need to be performed is populated by people, i.e. areas that are accessible to the public and employees, and are in the immediate vicinity of them. The essence of the mentioned measurements is to determine whether the obtained values of the level of exposure of the human body to electric and magnetic fields are in accordance with the Ordinance defined by the limit values, comparing them with the field restrictions for general public exposure, ie. exposure of the population, all with the aim of reducing the risk to employees and the rest of the population.

Thermal imaging tests on power plants and lines

Preventive thermal imaging, i.e. heating measurement, is practiced for early detection and prevention of potential fault points, which is manifested through increased reliability due to the prevention of unplanned outages in the power system. Thermal imaging is regularly used as a basic method in preventive and additional in regular testing, as well as in plant monitoring. The advantage of this method when compared to others is mostly reflected in the fact that the test is performed during the normal operating mode of the plant, which does not jeopardize the supply of electricity to end consumers.
